One Billion Rising-Day 14.02.2016 – Eine Milliarde Frauen erheben sich gegen Gewalt.
Der German YWCA mit seiner Präsidentin Melanie Gentner und unseren zwei jungen Komitee-Mitgliedern Marie Skripec und Netni Assmann haben bei diesem One-Billion Rising Day auf dem Stuttgarter Marktplatz mitgewirkt. Sie machten die Teilnehmerinnen mit der World YWCA Kampagne NoXcuse bekannt. Hier verschränken die Frauen ihre Arme und deuten damit an, dass es für Gewalt an ihnen keine Entschuldigung gibt. Marie Skripec (links), hat ihr Gedicht gegen Krieg und Gewalt vorgetragen. Im Anschluss rief Melanie Gentner zusammen mit der Vizepräsidentin des Landtags Baden/Württemberg Frau Brigitte Lösch und Netni Assmann alle Frauen zum gemeinsamen NoXcuse-Zeichen auf. Der YWCA–Beitrag wurde sehr beachtet und es wurde beschlossen, dass wir nächstes Jahr wieder mitmachen.
Eine Württembergerin im Weltvorstand des YWCA (Weltbund christlicher Frauen)
Pressemitteiung. Melanie Gentner, Vorsitzende des German YWCA e.V. (Weltbund christlicher Frauen in Deutschland), wurde auf der 28. Weltkonferenz des World YWCA in Bangkok am 16. Oktober 2015 in den Weltvorstand gewählt. Sie ist eine von 20 Frauen, die für die nächsten vier Jahre Politik und Aktionen des Weltbundes für über 120 Nationalverbände umsetzen werden. Hierbei spielen frauenspezifische Themen wie Leitungsbefähigung junger Frauen, Arbeitslosigkeit und geringe Bildungschancen, Zwangsehen, Aufklärung über Genitalverstümmelung und gesundheitliche Hilfen bei HIV-positiven Frauen sowie die Begleitung von Flüchtlingsfrauen und -mädchen eine große Rolle. Um diese Themen strategisch und zielgerichtet verfolgen zu können, hat die Weltkonferenz einen weltweiten Aktionsplan bis zum Jahr 2035 auf den Weg gebracht („Envisioning 2035“).
Global Breakfast – Ökumenisches Frauenfrühstück
Am 15.10.2015 haben die Evangelischen Frauen in Württemberg, der vij und der German YWCA zu einem Frühstück mit einer Gruppe Kubanerinnen eingeladen. Die vier Frauen mit leitenden Funktionen in Kirche und Diakonie aus Kuba wollten die Arbeit des YWCA und des Fraueninformationszentrums kennenlernen.

European YWCA elects a New Constitution and Board
In October 2014 the European YWCA held their biennial European representatives meeting (ERM) in Stuttgart, Germany, hosted by the YWCA of Germany. A total of sixty delegates from across Europe convened to discuss the future of the European YWCA movement and appointed a new European YWCA Board, formerly known as the Committee, to serve a two-year term.
The YWCA of Germany bottles sunshine!
During World Council 2011 in Zurich, Monika Simeon – General Secretary of the YWCA Namibia and World YWCA Board Member – approached the delegates of the YWCA of Germany. Monika wanted to meet the German delegates to exchange thoughts on the painful history that their two countries shared. The women struck up a friendship and a couple of months later the YWCA of Germany invited Monika to be their guest speaker at their Annual Meeting in October 2011. During her speech Monika gave a vivid report of her work and the challenges faced by the YWCA of Namibia. Her words – “The YWCA is not about money, it is all about skills” – struck a chord with the ladies from the YWCA of Germany and they decided to partner with the YWCA of Namibia.

1. YWCA GERMAN VISIT; Stuttgart, Oct. 12-16, 2012
The board meeting end on 12 October 2012 with dinner with WYWCA board members and Donor Agencies but I could not attend the dinner because I have to travel to Stuttgart – German at 7 pm. It was my new experience to travel with train in Europe and the worst part is that it was in the night and the language, passages speak Swiss and German but I manage to get a friendly passage that we travelled together until—– where I change in the train to Manheim. I arrived in Manheim at 22:22 where grandmother Ursula Luders met me. There was only 8 min to change the train to Stuttgart, she was afraid that the train may leave me and I might get lost. On our arrival in Stuttgart her husband Mr. Luders meet us at the main station and they took me to their resident where I stayed with them from 12 to 16 October 2012. I enjoyed their hospitality support and care.
My experience at the YWCA of Germany

My short trip to the YWCA of Germany made a great impact in my life as I learnt so many things. Most of the staff members are volunteers who offer their time and energy to serve the community especially young women and girls. I was privileged to be hosted by Hanne Braun the former President of the YWCA of Germany and who has been a member of the YWCA movement for more than 30 years including serving as an Executive Board member of the World YWCA.

Hanne Braun looks back on her lifetime experience with the YWCA: In 1952, as a ten year old girl, I heard about the YWCA. The head office of the Protestant Girls’ Work based at the Burckardthaus in Berlin reported about Ruth van Hoogevest of the World YWCA in Geneva and her work with German refugees. I also learnt about a woman from the Madras YWCA, who did an internship in Geneva. In 1993 I met this Indian lady then 75 years old at the Madras YWCA.
